At our FONVCA meeting of September 16th 2004 a list of nine (9) questions was drafted for prospective members of Council, including the Mayor, to which we kindly request a written reply. An additional list of seven (7) questions was specifically drafted for those running for Mayor. Clarify if required. v) What strategies would you pursue to control future tax increases? vi) Under what circumstances do you support the District of North Vancouver getting into commercial ventures? vii) Do you support the subsidization of organizations only by way of grants? viii) What is your position on environmental issues such as stream protection and dumping raw sewage into Burrard Inlet? ix) What major issues are you concerned about in the District of North Vancouver? Question for Mayor only i) Why do you feel you should be elected Mayor? ii) What experience do you have which qualifies you to handle the Mayor's duties in a crisis situation or natural disaster? iii) Detail the experience that renders you qualified to lead a diverse and sometimes quarrelsome group of councillors; for example, what have you done which demonstrates an ability to bring cooperation among Council to get them to work together as a team? iv) What knowledge do you have of procedural rules necessary to effectively and efficiently run a meeting? v) How much time will you be able (or plan) to dedicate to the Mayors job? vi) Describe your relevant financial experience and abilities. vii) As a mayor is automatically a director of the GVRD, how will you balance your responsibility to the District and the North Shore with your responsibility to vote on critical regional issues like new transportation infrastructure or managing our water resources.
